Favorite Londoners' Favorite London
Yotam Ottolenghi, Ruth Rogers, Claire Ptak, Meera Sodha and (many) more share their top restaurants, shops, galleries, antiques markets and bookstores.
There’s more London coming your way next month. But first, here’s advice from some of the most knowledgeable Londoners (and Brits in New York) I know. Where does Ottolenghi get his bread?!
RUTH ROGERS | Iconic chef and co-founder of the River Café and host of the Ruthie’s Table Four podcast. (The Wes Anderson episode is a must. Like, wow.)
I love the Michael Werner Gallery, whose home is in a beautiful listed Georgian townhouse in Mayfair, with spaces designed by Annabelle Selldorf. The rooms are of elegant proportions, with high ceilings, huge windows and light-flooded spaces. There is a unique intimacy — a feeling to be treasured when looking at art.
The Michael Werner Gallery was founded over 60 years ago. The London gallery, led by Kadee Robbins, embraces both its history and the world and culture we live in now.
I go often to the gallery to see their beautifully curated, museum-quality shows — recently Francis Picabia, Marcel Broodthaers, Maki Na Kamura and Florian Krewer.
The current exhibition is of longtime gallery artist Per Kirkeby, whose canvases capture nature in the most compelling way.
The Michael Werner Gallery is a quiet gem in London. A stolen moment to look forward to and never missed.
